The Dark Heart of Old Havana

    by 4160Tuesdays

"I was in Havana in 1998. For me, this scent brings back the feeling of adventure that walking around at night gave me. I was on my way to my tango lessons with Felix and Ketty, which ended with Felix and me giving a performance on stage at the Caseon del Tango. (My Spanish wasn't that good and, although I knew I'd been invited to a big event,  I'd no idea that I was it.) I've crammed it with what I found in Havana: sugar, tobacco, fruit, coffee, warm bodies, alcohol and exuberance, with just the slight hint of recklessness." Sarah McCartney

    NOTES: Sugar, tobacco, fruit, coffee

    1. The Dark Heart of Old Havana 1 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Aug 2016

I feel like there's way too much going on in this fragrance. Cheap, musky sugar, bitter grapefruit, a sickly, dry apricot sort of peach, sour jasmine, and a whiff of plasticy vanilla. It dries down into a washed out, perfume soup sort of fragrance where it's hard to identify any one note and it's just vaguely fruity-floral and musky... Fades quickly on me.

    2. Sweet and Dirty. Perfect 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Jun 2015

I think the name of this fragrance is a great fit for how it smells. I have to agree completely with the review by Aelfrik Spector.. "dark, dirty, sweaty, sweet and nasty - in the sexiest possible way" I love the burnt sugar and tobacco notes!!

    3. A huge dose of Iso-E-Super- it's an Iso-E bomb! 1 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Jul 2014

I am one of those people who can smell ISO-E-Super and this scent is full of it. The whole scent smelled like a pepper bomb exploded in it along with other heavy and not pleasant spices. The tobacco notes were not nice, but rather like the dirty bottom of an ash tray. The liquor notes like the bottom of a dirty glass with a slick of liquor on the bottom. And to bring it all together there is a rotting, old garbage smell that is just horrible to my nose. I normally love tobacco notes but this scent is dreadful to my nose. It's a scrubber plus. If you cannot smell Iso-E-Super you may think this is "super." Lucky you- go for it, but it is not for me.

    4. Sex in a bottle. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Jun 2014

I've spent the last few weeks slowly testing my way through a sampler selection of the entire 4160 Tuesdays collection.

Whilst there were a couple I personally couldn't appreciate, (Shazam, The Lion Cupboard and the one about Raffles), The Dark Heart of Old Havana has jumped out at me as one of the best of the entire collection, and most assuredly my personal favourite.

I can see why this would get mixed reviews. This is not a 'safe' frag. This is dark, dirty, sweaty, sweet and nasty - in the sexiest possible way. This fragrance is fighting and f---ing and laughing and fighting again, without showering. The sugar here is almost black. It's crude, unrefined, boiled until it's a black, smoky syrup. The tobacco is smoky and hot. The fruits, those glorious fruits!, are overripe to the point of rot. Sitting in the hot sun, beginning to ferment in the heavy, still miasma.
I agree there is an undercurrent of rotting sweet flesh here, but to my nose it makes it all the sexier. The rotten thread adds a beautiful counterpoint to the unrelenting, burnt-honey sweetness that pervades this.

      I am in love.

Longevity on me is long-to-very long lasting. Sillage is at the upper end of moderate.

    5. Dark Heart of Old Havana 4 Star Review

Posted by on 12th Jun 2014

I've thus far only tried two scents from this line and Dark Heart of Old Havana is easily my favorite of the two. Longevity is around 4-6 hours and it's pretty linear. I get a mildly fruity sugary coffee, not much tobacco to my nose. Overall a nice, sweet fragrance that's definitely unisex.
