    Finisterre

    by Maria Candida Gentile

I chose to dedicate this perfume to the Way of St. James, a long path where wanderers often find their way back to a lost dimension between the realms of the sacred and that of the physical. In particular, it is dedicated to the FINISTERRE, the place where you can decide to keep  walking for about a hundred kilometers after arriving in Santiago. The local tradition calls for travellers to bathe in the ocean, to then burn a garment they had been wearing during their march, and finally to collect a shell as evidence of their experience. The encounter with the ocean, the  power of the sea, the wind and nature, along with the special energy of this place inspired this creation.

    Top notes: marine accord.

    Heart notes: helichrysum, pine.

    Base notes: grey amber, sandalwood.

    1. Fresh and bracing. 4 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Aug 2016

Salty, cold (slightly minty) aquatic with a sharp, natural lime note. I get a hint of what smells like pottimg soil in the drydown, but mostly this is a cold, salty, sharp aquatic. Very clean and refreshing.

    3. Fresh but off the mark 3 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Sep 2014

To me the perfume is fresh and different throughout, but there is strong 'anise-like' ingredient that somehow does not blend well with the rest. This dies away somewhat in the dry-down. Disappointing. Try Acqua Di Stresa - Calycanthus Brumae, for a similar, and somewhat more successful, effort.

    4. Too much pine 3 Star Review

Posted by on 12th Aug 2014

This one started out promising: vivid aquatic notes, sandalwood, and something mouthwateringly crackly (like Pop Rocks). But an overdose of pine in the mid-base notes spoiled it for me. It went from an interesting oceanic accord to something generic and, sadly, air freshener-like.

Still, the quality of this perfume is top-notch and the notes were well blended. The longevity and sillage were impressive. It survived a scrubbing and clung to my skin for several hours afterward.
