"Cavernous and Mysterious"
Mystical, mysterious murmurings glide upon a blanket of inky sky. Shadows smear across the moonlight, their darting journey shrouded in darkness. Bats, the only mammal capable of true flight, are enigmatic and alien. Zoologist's Bat Eau de Parfum escorts you on an odyssey through the night. This unique olfactory experience carries you with the fruit bat to a sumptuous feast in a lush tropical jungle, before whisking you down to the recesses of its cavernous home. Sweet sycamore figs and soft fruits ensnare you with addictive notes, then beckon you deep with primordial mineral scents that evoke a rugged enclosure redolent with hints of damp soil and vegetal roots. Allow yourself to hang, draped in pitch black, as alluring musk wafts over you with every unfolding of the thousands of leathery wings that surround you. Bat Eau de Parfum is designed by Dr. Ellen Covey, winner of the 2015 Art and Olfaction Awards. She is both a master perfumer and a university professor who has studied bats extensively, and she now shares her insight and creativity through this one-of-a-kind perfume.

Bat has an incredibly toxic opening that resembles Weed and Feed chemicals. Shortly thereafter, the fragrance softens and you are left with moist dirt/damp soil. Do not be fooled by the raving reviews because there is absolutely no tropical notes, no banana, tonka, and there is nothing juicy or fruity about it. I can handle challenging scents but this was absolutely horrendous and my wife screamed at me to wash off the sample. Absolutely headache inducing. One of the worst fragrances I've smelled in my history of collecting niche. I tried to leave it on as long as I could and 20 minutes was the max before I had to scrub it. Who would want to smell like Bat droppings on wet soil? This is not a perfume; it should be used as a repellent for mice. 1 out of 10 rating

I love the earth and mineral tones in this. It truly smells like damp stone and a hint of black earth, or that gorgeous 'cold rain on hot pavement' smell you get with summer showers. I love that scent. The banana and tropical fruits add a soft, natural sweetness. The fuzzy musk, tonka and leather swirl together in the drydown and it's like a perfect, idealized picture of soft, leathery bat wings and fuzzy bat bodies. I really enjoy the soft leather and juicy, tropical fruit tones. Unusual and so good. I think that Ellen Covey is a genius for this blend, and I actually find Bat to be very easy to wear. It just smells flatout good :)

There's a lot going here, and the payoff is not there. Overall you will smell a dampness...so I guess that's a bat cave? I don't know, but this is not a perfume.

loved a perfume for the memories it invoked? You have the first soil note, it's big, for a while. Then you are compelled to remember pieces of your life. Kayaking at night through a cave, with phosphorescent water all around you or sitting at the closest table to the jungle in an outdoor restaurant. If you were hoping for vampires, you are out of luck. If you were hoping for your own tiny piece of a Louisiana night to take home, this is your magic.
